How to Replace an Audi TT Windshield

1. Inspect the windshield frame. If it has dents, cuts or corrosion, get it repaired. The new windshield will not bond to a bent frame.
2. Lay down vinyl drop cloths over the hood and dashboard. Windshields are made from safety glass, and if it is hit, it can shatter in many small pieces.
3. Remove the wiper blades and arms with a screwdriver.
4. Remove the rubber trim. Insert the screwdriver under the trim. Lift and pull the trim completely off the car.
5. Break the caulk by cutting around the windshield with a razor blade.
6. Remove the windshield. Insert the pry bar under the windshield. Gently pry the glass up. Go around the entire windshield slowly. An assistant can help you lift the glass out of the car.
7. Sand the mounting surface and new windshield. Sand the entire area of the mounting surface. Apply your bonding agent to the windshield frame. Rub your sandpaper along the inside edge of the new windshield. Apply the bonding agent to the sanded surface of the new windshield.
8. Apply the silicone. Lay a bead along the edge of the mounting area. Do not leave any gaps.
9. Insert the new windshield. Carefully lay the new windshield in the frame. Apply smooth and even pressure across the windshield. After the bonding agent has set, replace the rubber trim with your hand. Reinstall the wiper blades and arms.
