Sheathe the interior of the car with his hands

Over time, the car interior becomes plain and loses its aesthetics. The car seemed to fade from the inside. In order to keep him alive should proceed with this upgrade. It is possible to produce interior trim again. You can do it in a shop and pay them a considerable amount of money, but you can make yourself and get pleasure from it. But what about properly should be made interior lining? On this day few people know of the prime drivers. Many people consider the most awesome interior trim around the car tuning. The process of constriction seat new skin takes quite a long time, but the result is worth it. Main immediately detect under-seat propeller, screw, or piston. To the floor seats are attached by means of runners. First, you must pull the seat out of the car and put it on, say, a table. Then you should mark the marker and clothing makers intend to sign each panel cover is the title of the material from which it, in fact, be cut. Now you need to remove the covers from the old seat. Just because it's not done. It is necessary to keep the hands of a man who does it, were strong. Because that polyurethane, which is used in the pillow, he strongly holds the cover and in addition, more and springs. Now we need to shift the shot cushion over the Alcantara and pin down a sort of weights. After this is to partition circuits. Performed is usually a simple helium handle. Once the counting is done to perform contour cutting with scissors. This material alcantara cut very easily, so any difficulties you can not feel. She has a very short nap and is very similar to suede. Therefore, during the cutting direction of the nap should be taken into account. Alcantara should strengthen the ordinary foam rubber to make them soft. Those patterns that you have made of Alcantara, should be pasted on the foam. In any case, do not use glue, because it will spoil everything. He has to squeeze inside the pores of polyurethane foam and compresses it. This product can only be discarded, since its return to its former condition does not seem possible. They must be joined together. This connection method is efficient and safe. But as soon as you start to produce crosslinking, then make sure to mark on the foam and Alcantara fully coincided. This is for evenness. After this it is necessary to make gluing divorced in hand flaps seam from the inside (or inner) side of the waist seat covers. But what is their glue? Necessary to cut those strips of foam that remained after the firmware. After that you should dissolve in hand cuffs Alcantara and leather, and press them to the foam. After that you should produce steam and dry constricted products. Warming up is carried out using an ordinary hair dryer. Seat is also necessary to properly ironed. Once you've made all these procedures, clean the seat from dust, dirt, and then put them back in the car.

Automatic Car Driving Tips

Automatic Car Driving Tips
CAR automatic transmission have fundamental differences with the car manual, ranging from the physical form of gear, operation, until the character of the cars speed.

On manual cars, there are three pedals on the floor of the car controllers, namely the gas pedal, brake, and clutch. Stepped on the gas and brake and clutch with your right foot left foot. While in the automatic car only two pedals, the gas and brake. The existence of two pedals often makes people mistakenly stepped on the brake with the left foot and the gas with the right foot.

Should the two pedals were still operated with the right foot. Automatic car requires the drivers left foot all the way idle. Brake and gas pedal at the same time can damage the automatic transmission because the clutch in a condition turning, but the motion was detained.

Instead of showing the position of tooth 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and R as in manual cars, automatic transmission rod indicates the position P (park / parking), R (reverse / reverse), N (neutral / neutral), and D (drive / path to the front), respectively. On some cars, this combination plus the position of D1 or D2 or S and L (the car moves, but was detained in the teeth of 1 or 2, required when the steep incline, a sharp derivative, or across the slippery road conditions.)

Get used to start the car with the gear in position P coupled brakes (on some cars, the engine could be the start if the gear position is not in P and not step on the brake). Always walk on the brake when moving the gear from the position P or N to R or D position because once the gear was in the position of the R or D, the car in motion. When the car stopped for a while, for example at traffic lights or jams, do not get used to hold the brake on position in P. This will damage the transmission. Try moving to a position N when stopped.

Gearshift automatically create a driver who is not used will be confused when needed to move the teeth in order to get power or acceleration, such as overtaking a car. In this condition, use the kick-down function (pressing the gas pedal in-in), then the automatic gear down and the car gets accelerated.

In the latest cars, shift done electronically so that it can be moved into the semi-automatic mode. Fashion given different names depending on brand cars, such as the Porsche Tiptronic, multitronic and S-tronic in Audi, and Activematic at Mazda. However, the same working principle, the driver can move the gear manually in M mode (manual) by moving the stick shift into the position of (+) to move into a higher gear and the position of (-) for the lower teeth.

Honda CR Z 2010 Review and skip the second chance to get back to basics Honda tuner friendly

Honda CR-Z 2010 Review - The CR-Z is a vehicle that finally shows that Honda is trying to determine what should be a Honda. It is a vehicle that feels like it was created by engineers, not trained by the product planners juggle conflicting data from focus groups. Of course, there is a bit soulless robot Asimo also the personality of the CR-Z and not enough Integra Type R in your blood boiling, but if this is the future, no hope for Honda.

Under the hood is a 1.5-liter SOHC inline-4 i-VTEC variable valve timing makes 113 hp and 107 lb-ft of torque. It integrates a small electric motor that generates 13 hp and 58 Nm of torque. Combined with a parallel hybrid system makes 122 hp 6,000 rpm and 128 lb-ft of torque between 1000 and 1750 rpm when the car is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.

Honda CR-Z 2011 is almost flat tail and sharply raked windshield to cause blunt nose. At a total length of 160.6 inches, the CR-Z looks short, but its doors along a relatively long wheelbase and 95.9 inches, this machine is easy to enter and exit. large doors are thick and heavy, to produce to meet the thud when you close, that makes you feel safe and secure.

The seats are perfectly shaped, full of airbags and covered with a silvery substance. Behind the two seats are depressions that seem like they could be the seats themselves, but act as silos for wrecks common. Although the interior looks good, it is difficult to look backwards. The long rear window acts as a prism, can then reflect on the edges becomes funky.

Ugur Sahin Design Rolls Royce Jonckheere Aerodynamic Coupe II【Video】

Ugur Sahin Design has unveiled the Rolls Royce Jonckheere Aerodynamic Coupe II. The front of the car is one of the most impressive parts with a colossal grill that pays its respect to
Rolls Royce history and the original car while the round doors are a tribute to the original design which has made the car unique since its build in 1935, for some it is known as “The Round Door Rolls-Royce”

Ugur Sahin Design (USD) was tasked by VDL Jonckheere to design a car which was a modern reinterpretation of the original vehicle. According to USD the concept was put together with the crucial idea of respect for the 77 year old design. That meant the designers were careful to retain the essence of the original, while also making sure to balance it with modern touches which bring it into the 21st century.

Rolls-Royce Jonckheere Aerodynamic Coupe II reproduces the lines and shape of the original car, changing just a few details in order to modernise its look. A very long hood covers almost half of the car, leaving out only the rear passenger compartment and the luggage compartment’s space. The main differences are at the front, where new lights have been integrated above the wheel arches and a new large grille characterises the nose.

A final decision on the one-off production version will be announced in the upcoming months. We can then bring you all of the information on this awesome remake of one of the most mysterious cars in the world.

Press Release

Ugur Sahin Design - Rolls Royce Jonckheere Aerodynamic Coupe II

After the USD Z03 design concept has made its way to production as "Anadi", UgurSahinDesign is proud to introduce Rolls Royce Jonckheere Aerodynamic Coupe II.

"The main goal of this design was to respectfully reinterpret the original Rolls Royce Jonckheere Aerodynamic Coupe I, which was built in Belgium by Henri Jonckheere and his son Joseph Jonckheere in 1935. Unfortunately the "Jonckheere Works" was destroyed during WW2 and no records survived, so who commissioned or designed the original car remains a mystery. They were well known throughout Europe for making bodies on both cars and busses. The later of which is still in production today as VDL Jonckheere. UgurSahinDesign was assigned by VDL Jonckheere to honor its coachbuilding history through a reinterpretation of the original car which currently is in the possession of the California-based Peterson Museum.

For us, the original car represents the timeless aspects of automotive art and its impact it can have on a person even after 77 years. The new design was carefully put together with a very crucial thing in mind; "Respect". It is challenging to re-interpret something from that past which has a very imposing and impressive character like the original car, into a modern shape without losing its core essence. Many things like the proportions and lines, the impression some shapes give, are very essential to re-capture in the new design. While keeping the past DNA, injecting modern design elements which are in coherence with the past, is always a challenging task for every designer.

It was important to avoid creating a design which is too modern by changing the original proportions too much, while still adding and changing elements in a certain way to avoid creating an outdated impression.

With these things in mind, we set out to design a car that reflects a complex character which impresses its surroundings without having to depend on too complicated elements and unnecessary additions. In some way this certain quality might reflect its owner as well.

The front of the car is one of the most impressive parts with a colossal grill that pays its respect to Rolls Royce history and the original car while the round doors are a tribute to the original design which has made the car unique since its build in 1935, for some it is known as "The Round Door Rolls-Royce"

The rear of the car has the same bold styling with subtle details which do not disrupt the main proportions and the stance of the car.

Currently we are negotiating with potential investors and parties who are interested to become involved in the project in order to build an exclusive "One-Off" car which is destined to give its owner the ultimate feeling of luxury."

Troubleshooting a 1997 BMW 528I Fuel Pump

1. Watch for your 528i to exhibit signs that the fuel pump is not working properly. Two key signs are the car refusing to start when you turn the ignition key and the engine stalling when you press the accelerator pedal to increase the BMWs speed.
2. Listen for the fuel pump to begin working when the BMWs battery is energized. Put the ignition key into the ignition and turn it one setting to the right so that the cars battery is on. If the fuel pump is working properly, it will begin sending fuel through the fuel lines as soon as the battery is working. You should be able to hear the pump from the drivers seat of the car. Be sure to perform this test in a quiet place or, if you are unsure whether you hear the pump working, have a second person turn the key on while you stand by the gas tank and listen.
3. Connect a fuel pressure gauge to the Schrader valve of the engine and check the fuel pressure of the car. The Schrader valve is near the top of the engine and looks very similar to an air valve on an automobile tire. Once the fuel pressure gauge is connected to the valve, turn the BMWs engine on and let it idle. Read the gauge to see if the car has the proper fuel pressure level. A 1997 528i should have between 51 and 58 pounds per square inch of fuel pressure in its fuel system.
4. Inspect the fuel pressure regulator to see if it is working properly. When the fuel pressure is too low on your BMW, the regulator may be faulty instead of the fuel pump. Leave the fuel pressure gauge attached to the Schrader valve and turn the engine on so it is idling. Gently squeeze the black fuel line running to the fuel pressure regulator and watch the fuel pressure gauge at the same time. If the fuel pressure increases while you are squeezing the fuel line the fuel pressure regulator needs to be repaired or replaced instead of the fuel pump.

2011 Mercury Grand Marquis

The 2011 Grand Marquis is a 4-door, 6-passenger family sedan, available in one trim only, the LS.

Upon introduction, the Grand Marquis is equipped with a standard 4.6-liter, V8, 224-horsepower, flexible fuel engine that achieves 16-mpg in the city and 24-mpg on the highway. A 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is standard.

The 2011 Grand Marquis is a carryover from 2010.

Whats New for 2011

The Mercury Grand Marquis is unchanged for 2011, this cars final year of production.

Introduction

This is more of a eulogy than a model review. Born way back in 1978, the Mercury Grand Marquis lived a long and fruitful life, one that began at a time when land yachts with big V8s were the norm rather than the exception. Like Joan Rivers, it has sustained multiple appearance changes, and as with most senior citizens, there have been replacements for some of its creaky mechanicals. But through thick and thin, the Grand Marquis has retained its old-school heritage.
For its final year on this good earth, the 2011 Mercury Grand Marquis receives no changes and continues to live by the mantra "they dont make em like they used to." Indeed, its wide dimensions allow three people to fit reasonably well in both the front and backseat, while its trunk is big enough to let you stuff numerous pieces of luggage for that trip to the airport. Anyone who has ever ridden in a Grand Marquis taxi (or Ford Crown Victoria, this cars twin) can attest to this. The old-school body-on-frame chassis is also a stalwart of sturdiness, simplicity and dependability -- something our nations law enforcement community can attest to.
Sadly, they dont make em like the Grand Marquis for a variety of other, more important reasons. That body-on-frame design lets this Mercury jiggle and shake over bumps like a sumo wrestler during an earthquake. The cars handling is ponderous and the steering is slow, so you dont have much confidence in the cars ability to stay under control. Then theres the powertrain, a V8 that produces a puny 224 horsepower and barely respectable 275 pound-feet of torque, matched with an antiquated four-speed automatic. This Mercurys fuel economy (like its body structure) is rather trucklike. Finally, the cabin might be wide but the legroom is nevertheless limited, despite this cars large footprint.
Given these elderly attributes in a youthful world, its been difficult to recommend the Grand Marquis for the better part of the last two decades. As it goes to the big garage in the sky with the rest of its Mercury family, the 2011 Mercury Grand Marquis leaves behind a wealth of impressive, thoroughly modern big sedans that provide the comfort, space, performance and fuel economy todays buyers should expect, along with a few modern conveniences the Grand Marquis never got around to offering. These cars include such young whippersnappers as the Buick LaCrosse, Chrysler 300, Ford Taurus, Hyundai Genesis and Toyota Avalon.
The Grand Marquis is survived by its cousin, the Lincoln Town Car. We wouldnt buy that either. Funeral services will be held near the Hertz rental desk at the Ft. Lauderdale airport.

Body Styles, Trim Levels, and Options

The 2011 Mercury Grand Marquis is a full-size sedan that seats six people. Standard equipment includes 17-inch wheels, rear air suspension, automatic headlights, foglamps, keyless entry, automatic climate control, a 50/50 split front bench with six-way driver and passenger power adjustability, power-adjustable pedals, leather upholstery, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a tilting leather-wrapped steering wheel and a CD player stereo. Options include heated seats, a leather-wood steering wheel and a cassette player.

Powertrains and Performance

The rear-wheel-drive 2011 Mercury Grand Marquis is powered by a 4.6-liter V8 good for only 224 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque. A four-speed automatic is standard. Going from zero to 60 mph requires about 8.5 seconds, which is on par with many four-cylinder-powered sedans. Fuel economy is 16 mpg city/24 mpg highway and 19 combined. Thats a big improvement over 1978, but pretty disappointing today given this cars meager power.

Safety

Standard safety equipment includes antilock disc brakes, traction control and front-seat side airbags. Neither stability control nor side curtain airbags is offered. Nonetheless, the Grand Marquis has fared well in crash tests by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, scoring a perfect five stars for both frontal and side impacts. However, while the big Mercury earned the top rating of "Good" in frontal-offset crash testing conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, it garnered a "Marginal" rating -- second worst on a scale of four -- in side-impact crash testing.

Interior Design and Special Features

The Grand Marquis general interior design hasnt really been changed since...goodness, we cant even remember. The original George Bush may have been president. Major controls reside in the center of the dash and can be difficult to reach, though theyre incredibly easy to decipher and a testament to simpler technological times. Of course, that also means you go without the sort of modern conveniences Ford has become known for, like navigation, Sirius Travel Link and Sync, which you can use to control your iPod and cell phone using voice controls. We have a sneaking suspicion, though, that most Grand Marquis buyers wont care.
The cabin is quite wide, but backseat legroom is no more impressive than cars that are smaller on the outside. Nevertheless, the Grand Marquis is one of the few remaining cars capable of seating three people in the front seat, which means you can stuff six people inside. Their luggage will be able to come along as well, because the trunk measures 20.6 cubic feet, making it the largest of any car (though the Ford Taurus trunk is but 0.4 cubic feet smaller).

Driving Impressions

Driving the 2011 Mercury Grand Marquis is like taking a trip back in time, but without the fun of seeing your parents when they were teenagers. While rival full-size sedans generally provide decent handling and driver control, the Grand Marquis prodigious size, cushy suspension and zero-effort steering combine to simulate the experience of piloting the Goodyear blimp. The V8 provides healthy torque off the line but not much after that.

How to Compare Small Station Wagon Fuel amp Performance

1. Compare fuel economy independently of all other considerations. In its EPA Class Size listing, the US Department of Energy includes 19 small station wagon models produced in 2010. This list rates the Audi A3 and Volkswagen Jetta SportWagen as offering the highest fuel economy in their class at 34 mpg combined city-highway; however, it does not include other factors, such as the initial price of the vehicle, yearly maintenance fees and insurance costs, or performance.
2. Eliminate certain models from consideration by price. If you cant afford a cars sticker price, it doesnt matter how much it will save you at the pump. The 2010 Jetta SportWagen started at $24,310, and the Honda Fit had a starting MSRP of $14,900, while the Cadillac models cost a minimum of $37,955.
3. Rank small station wagons by performance indicators such as horsepower and acceleration. The BMW wagon delivers an estimated 21 mpg combined city-highway while cranking out 230 horsepower and sprinting from 0 to 60 mph in 7.26 seconds. A similarly priced and comparatively fuel efficient Audi A4 Avant produces 211 horsepower from a smaller engine while accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in 8.77 seconds.
4. Segregate car choices based on the drive configuration offered. If you want a car with all-wheel drive, that criterion narrows your selection to models such as the Audi, Cadillac, Subaru Impreza, Suzuki SX4, Volvo and Infiniti EX35. The center differential in an all-wheel-drive vehicle distributes torque to each wheel or axle to prevent wheel slippage and enable better handling in inclement weather.
5. Rate small station wagons by overall handling characteristics. The 2010 BMW 328 wagon featured a sports suspension that gave it a lateral acceleration of 0.85 g and enabled it to take the 600-foot slalom at an average speed of 59 mph. A modestly-priced 2010 Honda Fit had a lateral acceleration of 0.80 g and moved through the slalom course at a 60 mph average speed.
6. Differentiate models by emission level. The Environmental Protection Agency designates only a few of the 2010 small station wagons by the EPAs ULEV, or Ultra-Low Emission Vehicle standard. The Toyota Matrix earned this designation, while the 2010 Nissan Cube qualified for the EPAs SULEV, or Super-Ultra-Low Emission Vehicle rating.

How to Install a K and N Air Intake on BMW 525I

1. Carefully pry up and remove the alternator air supply tube and place it aside. Loosen the clamp securing the air intake tub to the MAF sensor and separate the tube from the sensor. Disconnect the sensor. Remove both front and rear mounting nuts for the air box assembly. Lift the air box and MAF sensor out of the engine bay as an assembly. Remove the clamp at the throttle body and remove the air intake tube from the engine bay.
2. Remove the two screws securing the MAF sensor to the air box and separate the sensor from the box. Remove the bolt securing the heater unit from the air box and place the heater unit aside. Remove the large o-ring from the air filter box and place it over the filter side of the MAF sensor.
3. Install the cone air filter over the MAF sensor inlet and tighten the clamp until the filter can only spin, followed by an additional 360 turn of the screw. Fit the small twisted bracket to the top of the rear air box mounting bracket and install a bolt, lock washer and nut. Place the longer bracket between the two air box mountings and install a bolt, lock washer and nut.
4. Install the stock intake tube to the MAF sensor and set the clamp into position. Position the thin end of the twisted bracket between the clamp and air intake tube. Tighten the clamp. Place the brass heater element into the hole in the back of the air filter and use an included zip strip secure the element to the twisted bracket. Connect the intake tube to the throttle body and tighten the clamp.
5. Lift the front of the vehicle and support it with jack stands under the sub-frame rails. Here you have to cut out a portion of the air grille. Measure and mark off at the half point of the right most portion of the grille. Cut out the bottom two horizontal rails with a knife or small saw. This should provide your with a one horizontal flat towards the top of the grille. Cut a small hole at the end of the cold air hose and zip strip the cold air hose to the cut out portion of the grille. Direct the cold air hose so that the air will be pushed towards the bottom side rear of the filter. Zip strip the cold air tube to the lower radiator hose.
6. Lift the vehicle off the jack stands and lower the vehicle to the ground. For a full customizable look, get a piece of chrome tubing about the same diameter of the stock intake tube and have it cut and bent at an exhaust shop to the same shape and length of the stock hose. Get two rubber couplers and 4 new clamps to secure the solid pipe to the MAF sensor and throttle body.

A 5-speed manual transmission with overdrive is standard. The Special Edition Power Retractable HT is equipped with a standard 2.0-liter, I4, 167-horsepower engine that achieves 21-mpg in the city and 28-mpg on the highway. A 6-speed manual transmission with overdrive is standard.

The 2011 MX-5 Miata is a carryover from 2010.

  • Stability control only offered in priciest model, and only with an expensive option bundle
  • Automatic transmission adds significantly to the price
  •
The Mazda MX-5 Miata was the car that kicked off the modern-day roadster craze back in 1989, and it remains one of my favorite two-seaters. New for 2007 is an optional power-operated retractable hardtop. Does the metal roof make the Miata any more (or less) loveable? We took the Miata on a long trip through New York State to find out, with Mother Nature giving us ample opportunity to find out just how weatherproof the hardtop Miata really is. Base price $21,280, price as tested $29,795, EPA fuel economy 22-25 MPG city, 30 MPG highway.
"Weve certainly put this little car through hell, havent we?" my wife Robin said as we drove through the suburbs of Manhattan. "Sailed" might be a better description; New York was getting one of the heaviest rainstorms on record and the Hudson Parkway, known for flooding, was starting to look more like the Hudson River. We were nearing the end of a 10-day 1,500-mile trip through New York State in the MX-5 Miata. Less than 50 of those miles were driven with the top down; most of our trip was cold, rainy and snowy It turned out to be a lousy trip for a convertible but a great test of the Miatas power retractable hardtop roof, a new-for-2007 $1,870 option. Despite the almost uniformly crappy weather, the Mazda MX-5 Miata proved itself, once again, to be the ideal touring companion -- even with the top up.

Audi R8 e tron speed record at the Nurburgring

Audi R8 e-tron
R8 e-tron set a world record for production vehicles with electric propulsion system on the Nurburgring. Pilot Mark took the helm of this high-performance sporty all-electric, to walk the 20.8 miles of track in 8:09.099 minutes. Audi has reached another milestone in his career, having achieved absolute victory in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and 24 Hours of Nurburgring.

"The R8 e-tron has done a magnificent demonstration of the potential in the track worlds toughest competition," says Michael Dick, Member of the Board of AUDI AG for Technical Development. Dick, who also completed one round of the R8 e-tron, added: "The record confirms that we are on track. For us, it never sacrifices power mobility, by contrast, is the emotional, sporty driving pleasure."

When compared to the current record has a standard car powered by a combustion engine at the Nurburgring, we realize how impressive it is a sign of 8:09.099 minutes to achieve. Best lap time is 7:11:57 hours, and was replaced by the Gum pert Apollo Sport, equipped with the Audi V8 petrol engine of 700 horsepower.

Propulsion system of the Audi R8 e-tron Winkelhock cruised to achieve a world record, as in every detail that will bring the series production model will be on the market later this year. Between two cars electric motor produces 380 hp power (280 kW) and 820 Nm of torque.

Audi R8 e-tron accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in just 4.6 seconds. Maximum speed is usually limited to 200 km / h, but it agreed to return the records to increase the limit to 250 km / h.

Rechargeable lithium ion R8 e-tron 49 kWh of energy, enough to cover 215 kilometers. The way T is allowed to be installed in the central and regional tunnels between the cockpit and the rear axle. Loaded by energy recovered during braking and retention.

Lightweight body of the Audi R8 e-tron is made primarily of aluminum, along with some components with carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP). This is the main reason why high performance sport only weighs 1780 pounds, despite having a large battery.

To further emphasize the importance of the production R8 e-tron and the ability to drive technology, Audi has set another record at the Nurburgring Nordschleife, in addition to spin records. Soon after, the pilot made two consecutive rounds of e-tron in the R8 has a limited speed to 200 km / h. 8:30.873 and 8:26.096 minutes respectively, both rounds well below the significant threshold of nine minutes.

"Making this record has been fantastic for me," said Winkelhock. Pilot has a very recent reference for comparison, the Audi R8 LMS with the ultra together with Marc Basseng, Christopher Haase and Frank Stippler, won the 24 Hours Nurburgring a few weeks ago.

"Of course, the Audi R8 e-tron is a standard car, not one of competition with aerodynamic aids" Winkelhock said. "But with a low center of gravity and weight distribution, slightly biased towards the rear, offers a quality of great sport. Couple with the electric motors drive the car uphill outperforms other models I have ever known, and had been torn from the stand alone completely new experience for me. In addition, all of which do this without making a little noise in the process. In places where you really need traction, torsion vertoring really helped. "

Dick concluded proudly, had forged the Nürburgring, what happens now.”In just a few weeks we managed to overcome many challenges and in time we have shown that we are leading in all our concepts of propulsion. We won the 24-hour Nürburgring in May, with the Audi R8 LMS Ultra comes with a ten-cylinder engine. Then, in mid- June, won the 24 Hours of Le Mans with the R18 Audi Quattro e-tron, the first overall victory of hybrid electric vehicles in the toughest endurance race world. And now, we have set a record with R8-electric e-tron in the most demanding track there. "

Honda FCX Clarity

Honda FCX Clarity

Chevy Malibu Hybrid
Honda unveiled the FCX Clarity fuel cell vehicle at the 2007 Los Angeles Auto Show, and an announced that a limited number of southern Californians will have the opportunity to lease one in the next few years. This is the first time a customer can obtain a fuel cell car directly from a retail dealer. The company is also showing progress with the creation of a hydrogen home fueling station.
A lease on the Honda FCX Clarity will cost $600 per month, including service, maintenance, and collision insurance. The term on the lease will be three-years.
In terms of appearances, the futuristic four-door Clarity will closely resemble the FCX concept, aside from some minor front-end design modifications. The Clarity will be powered by a hydrogen fuel cell stack—running along the car’s center tunnel between the front seats—that generates electricity but produces zero exhaust emissions at the tailpipe. Functional improvements in the FCX Clarity over the previous concept model include a 20 percent increase in fuel economy, a 30 percent increase in vehicle range to 270 miles, and an advanced new lithium-ion battery pack that is 40 percent lighter and 50 percent smaller.

Okay, But Where Do You Get the Hydrogen?

Honda has not yet disclosed the production volume for this vehicle, but some industry observers expect Honda to produce about 1,000 units. Customers will be able to drop off their vehicles at a Honda dealership for service, and Honda will then transport the vehicles to a dedicated service facility. The company will need to carefully select customers, based on their proximity to the limited number of hydrogen refueling stations. The lack of infrastructure to produce, distribute and sell hydrogen fuel is among the major obstacles to the adoption of fuel cell vehicles.
This week, Honda also announced progress with a home-based hydrogen production system—called the HES IV—that would remove a consumer’s need to find hydrogen fuel or visit a gas station. The company installed such a system at its headquarters in Torrance, Calif. The system was created by Honda and Plug Power Inc., a provider of on-site energy solutions. “Before fuel cell vehicles can have any significant market penetration, there will need to be a viable solution to the inevitable refueling question," said Mark Sperry, chief marketing officer at Plug Power. "The Home Energy Station provides the means for vehicle owners to produce onsite hydrogen, as well as heat and power, in an efficient and environmentally friendly way."
Seventy percent smaller than the first generation version, the HES IV makes use of a home’s existing natural gas supply in order to produce hydrogen for vehicles, as well as providing heat and electricity for the residence. Honda claims that using the HES IV to heat a home and fuel an FCX Clarity would reduce CO2 emissions by as much as 30 percent, compared to the conventional usage of grid-supplied electricity and gas-powered automobiles. Energy costs would also be lowered by an estimated 50 percent.
Availability of the in-home system is not expected for another seven to ten years.

How to Remove the Rear Seat Headrest from a 1999 Mercedes Benz E Class

1. Lift up on the lower rear-seat cushion and depress the clips located on each side of the bottom front of the cushion. Remove the three bolts -- one on each side and one in the bottom-middle of the backrest -- using a socket. Move the backrest forward to gain a better view of the headrest posts at the point they enter the seat.
2. Pry the square plastic covers out of the seat top surrounding the headrest posts. Be careful not to get over-zealous and break them -- they are close to an inch deep so you must use the screwdriver to pry around the corners little by little to get them out. Use a small piece of masking tape to hold them up near the headrest to keep them out of the way.
3. Grab one of the headrest posts with one hand while depressing the small tabs at the base of the headrest posts. Each post has these tabs, and they will simply lock again if tension is released on one post to release the other. This is where the process becomes a challenge, unless you know the trick: Keep a good grip on one post and release the tabs; once released, you can feel the post rise above the tab. Keep wrist tension on this post while depressing the tabs on the opposite post. The headrest will pull straight out.
4. Install the same headrest or new ones by transferring the plastic caps to the new ones and aligning the posts with the holes and firmly pushing both posts down evenly until they lock. Push the plastic caps into the seat.
5. Install the rear seat with the three bolts. Install the rear lower-seat cushion by pushing the rear of the cushion in first below the backrest and then pushing the front down until it snaps into the front hooks. Cycle the headrests all the way up and down to reset them.

2011 Audi RS3 Sportback

Official photos and details with the 2011 Audi RS3 Sportback have just been revealed by the German car maker who this time has packed big performance into a small package.

The 2.5-liter engine in the RS 3 Sportback is able to rev up to 6,800 rpm. The large turbocharger generates up to 1.2 bar of boost pressure. The intercooler downstream achieves an efficiency rate of over 80 percent. Like all Audi gasoline turbos, the 2.5 TFSI combines turbocharging technology with FSI direct injection.

Design wise, the RS3 is distinguished by aggressive fascias, an anthracite grille, and carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) fender flares. Other goodies include xenon headlights, a reduced ride height (25mm lower than a stock A3), aerodynamic side skirts, matt aluminum accents, a dual exhaust system, and 19-inch alloy wheels.

The interior is completely black and sporting a number of RS 3 logos. The sports seats are upholstered in Nappa leather with silver contrasting stitching. The inlays are in Piano finish black or the new Aluminum Race look. The leather multifunction sports steering wheel is flat-bottomed. The selector lever and instruments are specially designed for the RS3. The driver information system can display the boost pressure and oil temperature as well as a lap timer.

Press Release

Big performance in a small package: the Audi RS 3 Sportback

  • Five-cylinder turbo delivering 250 kW (340 hp) and 450 Nm (331.90 lb ft) of torque
  • Zero to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in 4.6 seconds, superior pulling power
  • Seven-speed S tronic, quattro drive and 19-inch wheels

Blazing performance, compact size. Audi has added a new model to its dynamic RS series: the RS 3 Sportback. In the great tradition of the brand, its engine boasts five cylinders and turbocharging technology. From a displacement of 2.5 liters come 250 kW (340 hp) of power and 450 Nm (331.90 lb-ft) of torque, with an average fuel consumption of just 9.1 liters of fuel per 100 km (25.85 US mpg).

Power is transmitted to the road via a seven-speed S tronic and quattro permanent all-wheel drive. 19-inch wheels and fenders made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) underscore the Audi RS 3 Sportbacks position of distinction.

Power and sound: the engine
Each Audi RS model represents the pinnacle of its model line - the RS 3 Sportback, developed by quattro GmbH, now brings this dynamic philosophy to the compact category. It rockets from a dead stop to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in 4.6 seconds - a performance figure unrivaled by the competition. Top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h (155.34 mph). Even so the compact car, weighing in at only 1,575 kilograms (3,472.28 pounds), uses on average just 9.1 liters of fuel per 100 km (25.85 US mpg) and emits 212 g CO2 per km (341.18 g/mile). This efficiency is due in large part to a delivery-on-demand oil pump and a regenerative system that recovers energy as the car decelerates.

The 2.5-liter engine in the RS 3 Sportback will thrill passengers thanks to its tremendous pulling power and its voracious revving up to 6,800 rpm. The guttural roaring and growling, backed by the signature rhythm of the five-cylinder firing order make up the classic Audi soundtrack. A sound flap in the exhaust branch intensifies the sound even further. The flap is controlled via the standard Sport button, which also varies the engine response.

Powerful five-cylinder engines have a long legacy at Audi. In the 1980s, racing cars and production cars used them to edge out the competition. Even the first Audi RS model, the 1994 RS 2, had a five-cylinder engine. The 2.5-liter unit, already part of the TT RS specifications, now redefines the state of the art, having recently been named "International Engine of the Year" by a high-ranking jury of automotive journalists.

The 2.5 TFSI delivers 250 kW (340 hp) from a displacement of 2,480 cc: a specific power output of 100.8 kW (137.1 hp) per liter. The maximum torque of 450 Nm (331.90 lb-ft) is readily available at the low end of the rev range, around 1,600 rpm, and remains constant up to 5,300 revolutions. These general parameters yield excellent acceleration and elasticity values.

Just 49 centimeters (19.29 inches) in length, the five-cylinder unit is ultra-compact, tipping the scales at a mere 183 kilograms (403.45 pounds). The crankcase is made of vermicular-graphite cast iron, a high-strength yet lightweight material. Audi is the first car maker to use this material in a gasoline engine. Perfectly placed reinforcements further enhance the blocks loadability. The lightweight-design concept keeps the Audi RS 3 Sportbacks weight in check and pays off big in terms of axle?load distribution and, ultimately, handling.

The large turbocharger generates up to 1.2 bar of boost pressure. The intercooler downstream achieves an efficiency rate of over 80 percent. Like all Audi gasoline turbos, the 2.5 TFSI combines turbocharging technology with FSI direct injection. The marriage of these two technologies facilitates a high compression ratio (10.0:1) along with a correspondingly high efficiency ratio. Flaps in the intake tract mix the air as it flows in. The two camshafts, each adjustable by 42 degrees of crankshaft rotation, also enhance the efficiency of the mixture formation.

Speed and grip: the drivetrain
The compact seven-speed S tronic transmits power from the five-cylinder engine via three shafts: one drive shaft and two output shafts. Like all dual-clutch transmissions, it comprises two transmission structures. The shifting process is extremely smooth, taking place in hundredths of a second as the clutches switch, with no perceptible interruption of pulling power. Seventh gear is very tall - a measure that reduces fuel consumption.

The driver can operate the seven-gear S tronic in two automatic modes and one manual mode. Gears are shifted using the paddles on the steering wheel or the selector lever. The launch control system manages the sprint from a dead stop, furnishing explosive turbo power with minimal tire slip.

Delivering power to the road with effortless ease, the quattro permanent all-wheel drive grants the RS 3 Sportback traction, dynamics, and stability. Its central component is an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch, mounted at the end of the propeller shaft to achieve a favorable axle load distribution. Located in its interior is a plate package bathed in oil.

Thanks to quattro, the propulsive power can be distributed to each axle as needed. Whenever slip occurs at one of the axles, an electric pump intervenes at lightning speed to increase the oil pressure. The pump presses the clutch plates together in a continuous fashion, thereby permitting the torque to be redirected accordingly. Thanks to a powerful accumulator, this process takes just a few milliseconds.

Dynamics and safety: the chassis
The stiff body lays the cornerstone for the RS 3 Sportbacks precise handling; the chassis is what makes it happen. The four-link rear suspension - with a track measuring 1,528 millimeters (60.16 inches) - is anchored to a subframe and features high-strength-steel control arms that allow it to handle longitudinal and lateral forces separately.

Widened to a 1,564-millimeter (61.57-inch) track, the front suspension is a McPherson strut construction, also with a separate subframe. Key components of the construction are made of aluminum. Thanks to its electromechanical drive, the rack-and-pinion steering is highly efficient, with a sporty-direct gear ratio of 16.2:1.

Coil springs and redesigned shock absorbers provide the vertical support. The sports suspension lowers the body of the RS 3 Sportback by 25 millimeters (0.98 inch) compared with the A3. The new range-topping model in the A3 series boasts 19-inch cast aluminum wheels fitted with 235/35 series tires at the front and 225/35 at the rear. The wheels come standard with machine-polished titanium-look styling, but are optionally available in black with a red rim flange.

The internally ventilated disks measure 370 millimeters (14.57 inches) in diameter at the front and 310 millimeters (12.20 inches) at the rear. The front friction rings are perforated for maximum heat dissipation. They are connected by hollow pins to the aluminum brake disk covers, which are encircled by four-piston fixed calipers painted a high-gloss black and bearing RS logos. The electronic stabilization program (ESP) features a Sport mode and can be switched off entirely.

Precisely guided by its responsive steering, the RS 3 Sportback eagerly takes to curves and exits them with agility, stability, and serenity. The stability limit is extremely high, an effortless mastery that rounds off the character of this powerful compact car.

Interior and exterior: dynamic styling
The new top-of-the-line model in the A3 series hints at its explosive potential from the very first glimpse. Together with the xenon plus headlights, the front apron, the anthracite single-frame grill with diamond-patterned styling and the air intakes cut a distinctive figure.

The side view is dominated by the flared front fenders made of carbon?fiber?reinforced plastic (CFRP), prominent sill panels, exterior-mirror casings in matt aluminum look and a large roof spoiler. A high-gloss black diffusor insert and two elliptical exhaust tailpipes on the left accentuate the styling at the rear. RS 3 badges adorn the single-frame grill and the rear hatch.

The dynamic style is matched in the interior, entirely black and sporting a number of RS 3 logos. The sports seats are upholstered in Fine Nappa leather with silver contrasting stitching; the inlays gleam in Piano finish black or the new Aluminum Race look; the leather multifunction sports steering wheel is flat-bottomed. The selector lever and instruments are specially designed. The driver information system can display the boost pressure and oil temperature as well as a lap timer.

The RS 3 Sportback comes with an array of standard equipment including the Sport button, rear parking system, climate control, chorus radio system, and xenon plus headlights with LED daytime running lights. Audi offers customers a range of optional features: front bucket seats, roof rails in matt aluminum look, and styling packages in black or matt aluminum. Five exterior colors are available, plus an unlimited selection of custom paint finishes.

The new top-of-the-line model in the A3 series is already the fourth Audi model to be built at Audi Hungaria in Gy?r, where it is rolling off the assembly line alongside the TT Coupé, the TT Roadster and the A3 Cabriolet.

Deliveries of the RS 3 Sportback will begin in early 2011. The base price in Germany will be 49,900 euros.
