How to Find Spark Plugs on the BMW 330I
1. Open the engine bay. Remove the cabin microfilter cover by twisting the three knobs that hold on the plastic cover, located at the rear of the engine bay just in front of the windshield.
2. Lift out the cabin microfilter. Disconnect the wiring harness from the filter enclosure by pulling it toward the front of the engine and then lifting. There are two clips, one on either side.
3. Using the T30 Torx bit, remove the four T30 screws that hold the filter enclosure in place. Remove the enclosure and set it aside.
4. Remove the plastic engine cover on the top left of the motor. First, remove the oil cap and then the small plastic caps that hide the bolts for the cover. Use a 10mm socket and wrench to remove the bolts.
5. Unplug the coils for the plugs by pulling up the plastic covers 90 degrees. The coil should pop out.
6. Pull the coils off the plug. You may have to pull hard.
7. Place the spark plug socket on the 6-inch extension. You can wrap tape around the spark plug socket to keep it from coming off of the extension as you pull out the plug.
8. Place the extension and spark plug socket in the hole that the coil came out of. Twist it until you feel it seat on the spark plug. Loosen the plug with the ratchet and pull it out with the spark plug socket once it is completely loose.
