How to Replace the Transmission Fluid in the 1997 Mercedes 420 E

1. Lift the hood of your car and prop it up with the lever. Pull out the transmission dipstick in the back of the engine.
2. Wipe all transmission fluid off the dipstick and replace it into the fluid cylinder. Take it out again and note where the fluid levels are. There is a line on the bottom that says LOW and another on top that says FULL, with space in the middle. The fluid level should be somewhere in the middle.
3. Add automatic transmission fluid if it fell below the LOW line. Pour some transmission fluid into the fluid cylinder and repeat Step 2. When fluid levels are adequate, your transmission fluids have been properly replaced.
